Crosstalk, sketches, Cantonese opera, Pingtan, fast-paced rap, Hakka storytelling and singing, Northeastern Errenzhuan... From June 21st to 22nd, the 8th "Nanshan Cup" National New Talent and New Work Exhibition of Quyi was held in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. This performance exhibition included two folk art performances, one "Bringing Laughter" event in Shenzhen, and one folk art market, attracting young folk art workers from all over the country to participate.

This grand event, which brings together outstanding young quyi talents and works from across the country, is jointly organized by the China Quyi Artists Association, the Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Publicity Department of the CPC Nanshan District Committee of Shenzhen. It is hosted by the Guangdong Quyi Artists Association, the Shenzhen Quyi Artists Association, and the Nanshan District Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Shenzhen, and co-organized by the Nanshan District Quyi Artists Association of Shenzhen.

The exhibition of new talents and works features a gathering of outstanding works, each showcasing their unique charm

On June 21st, the 8th "Nanshan Cup" National New Talent and New Work Exhibition of Quyi was splendidly staged at Shenwan Primary School of Nanshan Experimental Education Group.

It is reported that since the launch of this exhibition and performance event, a total of 116 works have been collected, covering 37 genres of music. After strict selection by experts, 24 works from 12 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions were successfully shortlisted. These shortlisted programs cover 17 types of folk art forms, including well-known ones such as crosstalk, sketches, fast-paced rhyming and storytelling, as well as those with distinct regional characteristics like Sichuan homophonic opera, Suzhou Pingtan, Henan Zhuizi, Cantonese opera and zanci. It is worth mentioning that this performance exhibition has for the first time incorporated new comedy styles such as stand-up comedy and manzai, bringing a brand-new experience to the audience.

In terms of content, most of the performance programs are newly created and original works that have emerged in recent years. Most of the works focus on the theme of Chinese-style modernization, revolving around rural revitalization, promoting fine traditional Chinese culture, social and family ethics, and the deeds of typical figures, vividly presenting the new concepts and changes in people's lives in the new era, and actively promoting the main melody and spreading positive energy.

In addition, the cast of the participating actors this time is very strong. More than 150 performers and staff members from professional troupes across the country, including the China Coal Mine Art Troupe, as well as cultural centers, mass art centers, grassroots small theaters, and new quyi organizations in various provinces and cities, participated. They interpret the contemporary charm of Chinese folk art with an innovative attitude. The age range of the actors is quite wide, with the youngest being 13 years old and the oldest 44 years old, with an average age of 33.

To enhance the creative and performance skills of young quyi talents, this exhibition and performance continues the tradition of setting up an expert review session. The event invited three experts, namely Cantonese opera performer Liang Yurong, homophonic opera performer Zhang Xudong and crosstalk performer Fan Jun, to serve as on-site commentators and provide one-on-one comments on the participating programs. They offer constructive suggestions to the actors from multiple aspects such as topic selection and conception, creative refinement, stage performance, music accompaniment, costumes and props, to support the growth of young quyi talents.

Fan Jun, vice chairman of the China Quyi Artists Association and a renowned crosstalk performer, commented that every time he comes to Shenzhen, he has a brand-new feeling. Shenzhen is open, inclusive, innovative and full of technological sense. Nanshan District, as a technology incubation base, is even more so. This year's "Nanshan Cup" highlights the word "new", featuring numerous new musical genres, new faces, newcomers and new works, which are highly consistent with the character of Nanshan.

One day, enjoy a hundred operas. The folk art market blends tradition with innovation

On June 22nd, a folk art market with the theme of "Wind Unlocks Art in Quyi" was grandly launched at the Sea World Art Center. A main stage and over ten secondary stages were set up on the spot, ingeniously combining exhibitions with performances. In the gentle sea breeze, the market and flash Moses interwove, presenting a rich and diverse array of folk art styles in a splendid way.

Famous folk art masters such as Li Jindou, Fan Jun, Dingdang and Liang Yurong performed on the main stage together with new talents, presenting a high-level show to the audience.

The quyi market composed of the secondary stage has become another major highlight. Here, a variety of classic folk art forms such as Guangdong Cantonese opera, Suzhou Pingtan, Henan Zhuizi, Northeast Errenzhuan, stand-up comedy, crosstalk and fast-paced rap are integrated and gathered, resembling a flowing cultural corridor. These programs not only showcase the essence of folk art from all over China, but also reflect the diversity and inclusiveness of folk art, which is in line with the diverse and inclusive temperament of Shenzhen, a city of immigrants.

At the market site, audiences can not only watch performances but also participate in interactions while the exhibition and display of folk art instruments and props are on display. They can even experience the fluttering of the Errenzhuan fan and the tremor of the sanxian strings with their own hands. Through these experiences, they can transform from cultural onlookers to participants and feel the rich connotations and charm of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.

The collision of tradition and fashion brings new vitality to Chinese culture

It is learned that the "Nanshan Cup" National New Talent and New Work Exhibition of Quyi is a high-level display and exchange platform jointly created to strengthen the construction of the young quyi creation and performance team. Since 2013, it has been successfully held for seven sessions, attracting the attention and response of a large number of young quyi workers. It has played a positive role in inheriting and promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture and promoting the high-quality development of quyi in the new era.

The 8th "Nanshan Cup" has achieved an upgrade in creativity. Young creators activate traditional genes with contemporary aesthetics. Urban Spaces provide innovative fields for traditional culture. The program content ingeniously integrates fashionable elements, diverse art forms and online language, injecting new vitality into traditional Chinese folk art and allowing excellent traditional culture to release new energy of Chinese culture on the stage of the new era. Just as the young actors participating in the exhibition said, "In Shenzhen, we have not only found the roots of tradition but also sprouted the buds of innovation." This might precisely be the best interpretation of the resonance between traditional culture and the youthful city.
