Thousands of large swans have arrived at the Yellow River Wetland in Pinglu, Shanxi Province to spend the winter

As the temperature continues to drop, thousands of wild swans from Siberia have recently arrived at the Yellow River Wetland in Pinglu County, located in the south of Shanxi Province. In large flocks, the swans are singing loudly and dancing gracefully on the vast water surface, adding boundless vitality to the winter wetland.

The Pinglu Yellow River Wetland in Shanxi Province, covering an area of over 6,000 hectares, is located at the junction of Shanxi and Henan provinces. The climate here is mild and there is an abundance of food. It is one of the important wintering habitats for Chinese whooper swans in China. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the ecological environment of Pinglu Yellow River Wetland, the number of whooper swans wintering here has been around 10,000 each year.

Wang Chao, a staff member of the Forestry Bureau of Zhanping County, introduced that this year, due to the earlier onset of the cold weather, large numbers of swans began to arrive for the wintering period starting from late October. Currently, there are about 3,000 to 4,000 swans in the Yellow River Wetland of Zhanping County. It is expected that as the temperature drops, more and more swans will come here to rest and overwinter. To help these swans have a smooth wintering period, the local forestry department has prepared a large amount of cabbage and corn as supplementary food for them, and specially arranged full-time guards for round-the-clock patrol.
