Xinhua News Agency, New York, December 2nd - The three major stock indices on the New York Stock Exchange rose on the 2nd.
As of the close of trading on that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 185.13 points compared to the previous trading day, closing at 47,474.46 points, with an increase of 0.39%; the S&P 500 Index rose by 16.74 points, closing at 6,829.37 points, with an increase of 0.25%; the Nasdaq Composite Index rose by 137.75 points, closing at 23,413.67 points, with an increase of 0.59%.
In terms of sectors, the S&P 500 index saw eight out of the eleven sectors decline and three rise. The energy sector and the materials sector led the decline with drops of 1.28% and 0.82% respectively, while the industrial sector and the technology sector led the rise with gains of 0.87% and 0.84% respectively.
