As of the close of trading on that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 42.36 points from the previous trading day, closing at 49,149.63 points, with a decline of 0.09%; the S&P 500 Index fell 37.14 points, closing at 6,926.60 points, with a decline of 0.53%; the Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 238.12 points, closing at 23,471.75 points, with a decline of 1.00%.
In terms of sectors, the S&P 500 index saw six out of the eleven sectors rise and five fall. The energy sector and the consumer staples sector led the gains with increases of 2.26% and 1.18% respectively, while the non-essential consumer goods sector and the technology sector led the declines with drops of 1.75% and 1.45% respectively.
