Chinese company completes construction of wind power project in Ethiopia and leaders from three countries attend the ceremony

The Aisa Wind Power Project in Ethiopia, which was constructed by Chinese enterprises, held its commissioning and power generation ceremony on January 31 in the eastern Somali region of the country. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy, Djiboutian President Guelleh, and Somali President Mohamed, among others, attended the event.

Abi stated at the event that clean energy is of vital importance for Ethiopia's long-term economic development. The Aisa Wind Power Project demonstrates Ethiopia's pursuit of self-reliance by utilizing local resources. "Thank you to the Ethiopian Electricity Company, the Chinese Dongfang Electric Group that constructed the project, and the people in this region. Thank you for your contributions to the completion of the first phase of the project."
It is known that the Aisha Wind Power Project began construction in 2017. Dongfang Electric and the owner, the Ethiopian Electricity Company, signed a general contracting contract. The project has a total installed capacity of 120 megawatts, with 48 single-unit wind turbines of 2.5 megawatts each. Currently, the first phase, consisting of 32 wind turbines, has been installed and has started grid connection and power generation.
The CEO of the Ethiopian Electricity Corporation, Ashibel Barcha, said that the Somali region of Ethiopia is rich in wind energy, solar energy and natural gas resources. The Aisa Wind Power Project, as an important green energy infrastructure of Ethiopia, will provide reliable power support for the construction of the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway Economic Corridor after its commissioning, and enhance Ethiopia's power export capacity to Djibouti.
