Wang Yi met with British Foreign Secretary Cooper

On the 13th, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with British Foreign Secretary Cooper during his participation in the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi stated that both China and the UK are major global powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council. Each of them bears the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain regular exchanges, enhance strategic coordination and communication, expand mutual interests, and safeguard world peace and development. Not long ago, Stammers visited China and successfully carried out a historic visit, thus restarting the relationship between China and the UK.

Wang Yi said that both sides should implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continuously enhance the positive aspects of bilateral relations, and explore more potential for cooperation. Both sides should successfully hold the new round of economic and financial dialogue, the trade and economic coordination committee meeting, and the China-UK strategic dialogue, resume normal exchanges between the two legislative bodies, and strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges. China supports free trade and opposes any form of protectionism. China welcomes enterprises from various countries, including the UK, to invest in China. It hopes to make good use of platforms such as the Import Expo to expand exports to China and expects the UK to provide a fair, impartial and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises.
Cooper stated that Prime Minister Stammer's visit to China was a complete success and yielded fruitful results, playing a significant role in promoting the development of UK-China relations. The establishment of a long-term, stable, and comprehensive strategic partnership between the UK and China is in line with the strategic interests of both sides. The UK is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote mechanism-based dialogues in various fields, expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, climate, security, green technology, etc., and properly manage differences. The UK upholds multilateralism and international rule of law. The two sides can strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation to contribute to promoting world peace and security.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the Ukraine crisis, Sudan, and Iran.
