The director of the Louvre Museum in Paris has resigned.

The Elysee Palace, the residence of the French president, released a news announcement on the 24th stating that the director of the Louvre Museum, Laurentine Decar, submitted her resignation to the president. President Macron accepted her resignation request and described this action as "a responsible move".
Decar has been the director of the Louvre since 2021. His resignation comes nearly four months after the Louvre robbery incident. It is known that shortly after the robbery incident in October 2025, Decar had proposed to resign, but it was not approved by the French Minister of Culture.
In an interview published by Le Figaro in France on the 24th, Decar said that the reason for her resignation was that she felt the "modernization process of the Louvre that she had initiated since taking office in September 2021 could no longer be continued."
In his announcement, Macron stated that he hoped to leverage De Caler's academic expertise and entrust her with the responsibility of handling cooperation matters among major museums during France's tenure as the rotating chair of the G7.
In October 2025, the Louvre was robbed in broad daylight by four masked individuals. Many valuable jewels are still missing. The administrative investigation into this case revealed that the museum had "operational dysfunction problems" such as insufficient external surveillance equipment, outdated security control room equipment, and inadequate internal coordination within the institution.
